Vault 101 para Mac

I'll leave this as a comment instead of a review since I used it for something it was not intended for. Be aware that this app is NOT designed to encrypt folders on your own computer to keep them away from prying eyes, it is ONLY useful for sending encrypted data to others. I wanted something that would encrypt my home folder for when I bring my computer in for repairs next week and they send it to Apple for a couple days. As I've discovered, this app is not useful for that purpose. To be fair, the developer never actually mentions the user folder or talks about concealing data locally, the description only talks about sending encrypted data to other users. However, the description on the MAS does say "Password protect files and folders in 3 easy steps: Choose source folder, set capsule name and password and click "Create"." I took that to mean I could use Vault to lock files and folders on my computer, but I can't. I can create a locked capsule that contains files or folders, but the originals remain unlocked. There's no user manual. ANY app that uses encryption to lock up your data should come with a manual! If I simply open the app and click the "Create Vault" button, a message says "Vault Capsule created successfully." WHERE?! I've hit that button at least 8 times, so I should have a pile of empty capsules lying around but I don't (EasyFind didn't find them either). The ONLY capsule I have is the one I successfully created a few minutes ago on a tiny folder of nine images, just to see if it could really be done since I was apparently unable to encrypt my Home folder yesterday. I installed this app yesterday because I was going to drop off my computer last night for repairs and didn't want anyone to have access to my passwords, credit card numbers, music etc. I tried to lock up my home folder, not knowing that it would remain unlocked while a locked copy was created. First of all, I got beach-balled and there was no indication if Vault was busy encrypting my data or if it was really hung, so I force-quit it and tried again. Tried it three times with the same result each time. There's also no possible way a copy of my user folder could have been created in the location I selected due to lack of space. This is obviously something that vault should check before beginning the encryption process. My user folder is currently 405 GB with less than 50 GB free, and I chose my user folder as the location for the new capsule, so obviously it wouldn't fit. Entering the password for a capsule doesn't actually unlock it as one would expect, instead it remains locked and a new Finder window appears displaying the contents of the capsule. If you close that window you lose access to the capsule contents and must enter the password again. Vault is not compatible with Path Finder - it only opens windows in Finder. If Finder is closed (as mine was), it will open to display the capsule's contents after the correct password is entered. In closing, this app has its bugs, but might be useful if you need to send encrypted data to someone, not hide data on your own computer.

More a pure snake oil. RUN AWAY!
